GREENFIELD — David Spencer didn’t take much notice of how much fun Lauren Brand and Kyla Leary had playing tennis until he was acting as a line judge in a No. 1 doubles match against Yorktown two seasons ago. Brand and Leary, then sophomores and Greenfield-Central’s No. 2 doubles team, were playing on the court behind Spencer.
And the pair couldn’t stop laughing. Or giggling. Or talking.
To the casual observer, it may have seemed as if Brand and Leary weren’t taking their match seriously. That is until the contest was over and the G-C tandem prevailed, which happened 45 out of the 56 occasions Brand and Leary were paired together in their four years on the Cougars’ tennis team.
