Rushville snapped Greenfield-Central’s two-game winning streak Friday, downing the visiting Cougars 74-60.
Cole Olesky scored 20 points for G-C (4-16). Tate Hall added 17 points and Dallas Pribble had 11.
The Cougars were coming off an 86-80 overtime win at Shelbyville Tuesday night and took a 16-13 lead after one quarter. But, the visitors fell behind 27-25 at half and trailed 52-44 after three quarters.
“Of course, we’re not going to shoot as well as we did the other night. We tried to speed everything up and make a little run in the second half,” G-C coach Josh Johnson said. “We had no problem scoring, but we couldn’t get that stop we needed.”
Friday was the sixth time the Cougars have allowed at least 65 points this season.
“Defensively, we have to give a better effort. We can’t give up that many points,” Johnson said. “We’ve been putting up some points, but we just have to defend better as a team. We can’t let them drive by us.”
Oleksy was a bright spot, turning in a season-high in points.
“The last few games, he’s been coming to play. Early in the game, we ran a few plays for him and he got going. He did a nice job,” Johnson said. “To start the third quarter he had two tip-ins. All-around, tonight was one of his better games.”
Rushville improved to 7-9. G-C hosts Cambridge City Lincoln (6-10) today.
