Behind a career-best 27 points from freshman Madison Wise, Greenfield-Central improved to 4-3 on the season with a 57-53 win over visiting Richmond Tuesday.

The Cougars — who defeated former 3A No. 1 Rushville Saturday — led 30-21 at half over the Red Devils, a common Sectional 9 opponent, and have now won two in a row.

“We rebounded extremely well offensively. It’s a win. The kids played hard,” G-C coach Doug Laker said. “Sometimes we didn’t make good decisions. ... We’re getting better in different areas. We’ve got to keep shoring things up and cleaning things up.”

Greenfield-Central (0-1 Hoosier Heritage Conference) is at New Palestine (4-3, 2-0 HHC) Friday.

The Cougars’ JV team won 51-16, improving to 4-3. Amanda Flora had 11 points for G-C.

 

Anderson 72, Mt. Vernon 60

MV fell behind 19-4 after a quarter and never recovered.

The Marauders (4-2) have lost their past three meetings with the Indians, who moved to 4-2 on the season.

Mt. Vernon (1-0 Hoosier Heritage Conference) is at Yorktown (3-1, 0-0 HHC) Saturday.

 

North Decatur-Eastern Hancock postponed

Tuesday night’s tilt between the 4-2 Chargers and 5-0 Royals was postponed because North Decatur did not have school Tuesday.

No makeup date has been announced.

Eastern Hancock’s previously postponed contest at Franklin County has been rescheduled for Jan. 18. The game was supposed to be played on Dec. 7.

The 2A No. 5 Royals are at Northeastern (1-4), a common Sectional 41 foe, Thursday.
