In a rematch of last season’s 3A State Finals, the Mt. Vernon girls basketball team defeated Hamilton Heights 72-56 Saturday.

The Marauders felled the Huskies 61-47 on March 2 to claim the 3A state crown.

Sydney Shelton led MV (3-1) with 27 points — two points shy of her total vs. HH last March — and added seven rebounds and five assists.

In support of Shelton, Ariana Sandefur scored a career-high 22 points; Shaely Duff had 10 points, five rebounds and three steals; Olivia Coleman had six points, four rebounds and six assists; and Morgan Stricker had three points and a team-high eight boards.

Hamilton Heights fell to 1-4.

Mt. Vernon also won the JV game. Hannah Johnson had 13 points. Taylor Riggs and Megan Gawrys each had eight.
