RUSHVILLE — It wasn’t a conference defeat, but Greenfield-Central’s 39-17 loss to Rushville Friday was disappointing nonetheless.
The Cougars made three turnovers and surrendered over 300 yards rushing in their fifth straight loss after a season-opening win at New Castle.
G-C had won three straight over the Lions. In previous seasons this was a Hoosier Heritage Conference matchup, but Rushville joined the Eastern Indiana Conference this school year. The programs decided to keep each other on their football schedules for 2013.
The Cougars (0-3 HHC) will return to conference action the final three weeks of the regular season beginning next Friday against Mt. Vernon. Based on their season-long struggles that continued Friday, the Cougars appear headed toward a winless HHC campaign.
“Just plugging away, that’s all we can keep doing,” G-C coach Roger Dodson said. “I just have to get these guys to listen to our group, not read the newspaper, so to speak. Stay positive. That’s our only alternative. We’ve got to get to work. We’ve got to battle it.
“We’re dealing with high school kids. This is pretty tough times for these guys. It’s frustrating to lose several games in a row now, but it isn’t because they aren’t working at it.”
