GREENFIELD –– The text message that came to Greenfield City Hall Tuesday morning was as uplifting as it was somber.

“He’s with big Butch now.”  

Those close to Dick Pasco knew exactly what it meant. The beloved mayor, businessman, community advocate, jokester and friend had died, following in the paw prints of his faithful companion, Butch the Wonder Dog, who died last year.

Pasco, 66, lost a battle with liver cancer, which doctors discovered just last week had returned. And though the mayor had spent the past two years fighting infections, he rarely missed a day coming to the office.
