FORTVILLE — The Fortville Town Council is scheduled to put the finishing touches and first approval on the long-gestating animal control ordinance at its next meeting, 7 p.m. Monday in the town hall.

The proposed ordinance addresses issues such as abandonment of animals, prohibitions on certain domestic animals within incorporated limits, what the town and law enforcement are allowed to do under specific circumstances, the fines that can be levied on violators and extermination of vicious animals.

Currently, the town does not allow animals such as cattle, swine, commercial rabbits, goats, donkeys, sheep, bees and birds of prey within corporate limits.

The proposed animal control ordinance is available for viewing on the town’s website at www.fortvilleindiana.org.
