FORTVILLE — A promise to seek raises and new vehicles for the Fortville Police Department in exchange for helping fix a traffic ticket has resulted in an investigation of the town’s clerk-treasurer.

Marcie Stafford, who is in her first year in office, does not yet face charges. But a report from Fortville police points to a text message she sent to a member of the department in which she suggests a handsome payback if the policeman would intercede on behalf of her son, who had been cited in Greenfield for rolling through a stop sign.
