WILKINSON — A lace-up antique boot, scraps of homework and an old sneaker thrown atop a radiator are the few rare items left behind at the old Wilkinson School.
Now in the midst of demolition, soon the only things that will remain of the century-old structure will be fond memories.
The Wilkinson School is being demolished by private owners, Christy and Jeff Broady. While the couple had wanted to preserve the building when they bought it in 2000, its condition worsened beyond repair. Two of the three parts of the school will be destroyed likely by the end of this year.
The school, a predecessor of Eastern Hancock, once housed all students in Brown Township. Local residents recall fond memories of a close-knit community with small class sizes and caring teachers.
