FORTVILLE — Paige Barr was too interested in the nearby playground to pay much attention to her lunch Wednesday afternoon.

Paige sat on a bench in Landmark Park, sipping lemonade and all but ignoring the hot dog handed to her by volunteers from Fortville United Methodist Church.

“I want to go on the slide,” Paige said to her grandmother, Vicki Wise.

Wise had walked to the park at noon with her 6-year-old granddaughter for Fortville UMC’s Wednesday Lunch Bunch program – free lunches of hot dogs, fruit and other snacks served by church volunteers to kids and their caretakers.

Though Paige was too interested in the slide to pay much attention to the free meal, Wise was not. She heard about the summer lunch program through the church’s other food services – a weekly food pantry and other free meals throughout the year.
