Helping make sure the midway will be gleaming when the Hancock County 4-H Fair opens today, Janine Walker scrubs down a section of one of the main tarps used to cover one of the rides. Burton Brothers Amusements, based in Shirley, is again running the midway attractions this year.


The Hancock County 4-H Fair opens today with a number of animal shows, the popular foods auction, and of course, the midway. The fair also will be a celebration of the work of upwards of 1,200 4-H'ers. Here's a look at the weekend schedule:

Today

8 a.m.: 4-H Poultry Show, 4-H West Arena; 4-H Dog Show, 4-H Show Arena

12:30 p.m.: Tractor Maintenance Contest, Multipurpose Arena parking lot

5-10 p.m.: Commercial Building open, Preview Night for 4-H Exhibit Building

5 p.m.: Carnival opens

6 p.m.: Talent Show and 4-H Color Dash, 4-H Bowl; 4-H Pocket Pets and Mini 4-H Pocket Pets, 4-H West Arena

6:30 p.m.: 4-H Horse & Pony Show, Contesting Classes, Multipurpose Arena

7 p.m.: 4-H Foods Auction, Pioneer Building

8 p.m.: Stella Luna & Satellites, Pioneer Building

 

Saturday

6 a.m.: Open BBQ Contest begins, sponsored by Viking Lamb, Extension parking lot,

8 a.m.: 4-H Horse & Pony Show, Halter, Performance, Western & English, Multipurpose Arena

9 a.m.: Baby Contest, sponsored by the Hancock County Breastfeeding Coalition, 4-H Bowl

10 a.m.-10 p.m.: 4-H Exhibit Hall open

3 p.m.: Open BBQ judging begins

4 p.m.: Carnival opens

4 p.m.: Radio Disney

5-10 p.m.: Commercial Building open

5 p.m.: Pet Parade, sponsored by Hancock County Farm Bureau, 4-H Show Arena

6 p.m.: 4-H BBQ Contest, Extension parking lot

6:30 p.m.: 4-H Dairy Show, 4-H West Arena

7 p.m.: Walker County, Pioneer Building; 4-H Queen Contest, sponsored by NineStar Connect, 4-H Show Arena

 

Sunday

7 a.m.-5 p.m.: The north parking lot will be closed to all non-parade traffic

8 a.m.: 4-H Rabbit Show and Mini 4-H Rabbit Show, 4-H Show Arena

10 a.m.-10 p.m.: 4-H Exhibit Hall open

10:30 a.m.: Worship service, Pioneer Building

2 p.m.: Hancock County 4-H Fair Parade (see Page 9 for route)

3-10 p.m.: Commercial Building open

3 p.m.: Carnival opens

6 p.m.: 4-H Llama Costume Classes, 4-H Show Arena

7 p.m.: Tractor Pull, Multipurpose Arena; Jeff Kinder & Easy Country, Pioneer Building; Fashion Revue, 4-H Bowl
