Inside the exhibit hall Thursday at the Hancock County Fairgrounds, organizers of the seventh annual Feast of Plenty looked more like a mechanized army as they prepared 50 turkeys, doled out 1,000 rolls and garnished gallons upon gallons of corn and mashed potatoes with 12 cases of gravy. Toss in 400 pies – diners could choose among pecan, cherry, pumpkin or apple – and the annual operation looked a lot like a small army on the move. It was mission accomplished, as the Feast of Plenty filled more than 800 delivery orders for Thanksgiving dinner. The brigade of drivers was kept busy for hours hauling hot trays of food, and cooks worked even longer to be sure there was enough food for the estimated 1,500-plus who stopped by the fairgrounds for the traditional meal.
