Facts about the 113th Congress

► The 113th Congress meets Jan. 3, 2013 to Jan. 3, 2015

► This is the first Congress to meet since the redrawing of district lines based on the 2010 census. New lines put Hancock County in the 6th District, which on the eastern and southern side covers the largest geographic region in Indiana.

► The U.S. Senate will be made up of 53 Democrats and 45 Republicans. Democrat Joe Donnelly and Republican Dan Coats will represent Indiana.

► The U.S. House of Representatives will be made up of 233 Republicans and 200 Democrats.

► Messer will serve on the house committees on budget, foreign affairs and education and the workforce.
