New Palestine 4 of 13 at stripe

GREENWOOD — A sub-.500 Greenwood club presented New Palestine’s boys basketball squad with a golden opportunity to continue its momentum heading into the sectional.

The Woodmen, too, have been playing decently of late and likewise sought that pre-tourney push.

Based on how well Greenwood shot the ball Friday night — and how the Dragons didn’t — NP will have to step its game up considerably Tuesday against Franklin when Class 4A Sectional 13 commences at Center Grove.

The Dragons could not continue their mini-run of impressive performances, as the Woodmen stormed past NP near the end of the first quarter and held off the guests 60-58.

Had the Dragons (10-10) simply made more than half their foul shots, the outcome would have been different. NP made only four of 13 attempts and that in large part put to waste a tremendous rebounding effort — 42 in all, including 17 offensive boards.
