FISHERS — Former Greenfield Mayor Brad DeReamer is throwing his name in for a new challenge, hoping to become a member of the Fishers City Council.
DeReamer, mayor of Greenfield from 2008 to 2011, announced his candidacy Thursday. The town north of Indianapolis is transitioning to a city following last year’s public referendum. In 2014, a special election will be held to pick the new nine-member council and the city’s first mayor.
DeReamer, 66, said he tried retirement for a year after leaving office, fulfilling a promise to his wife, Sharon. But he admits he’s getting the itch to become involved in politics once again.
“With my entrepreneurial experience and being a mayor (of Greenfield) and they’re going to become a city, I’m going to have more experience than anyone else up here,” DeReamer said.
