MT. COMFORT — For Christy Broady, president of the Weir Cook Memorial Project, patriotism runs deeper than politics and ideology; it’s more about the people who serve and sacrifice.
It’s those people, active-duty servicemen and women and veterans, who will be the focus of the Veterans Reunion family fun day and celebration Sept. 14 at Indianapolis Regional Airport.
The event is co-sponsored by the Weir Cook group and Indiana Air Search and Rescue, two nonprofit groups dedicated to promoting military aviation preservation and education along with veteran support.
“We’re trying to think of everything we’d like to have if it were our day and just doing it,” Broady said.
“It’s going to be a gathering to bring people together to support and thank our military,” she said. “Indiana Air Search and Rescue was a great group to partner with since they have the same kind of mission statement.”
The day begins at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast provided by the USO of Indiana and Kroger followed by a 5K run/walk on the airport tarmac sponsored by Blue Star Families, a military family support group founded in 2008. Breakfast is included in race registration, Broady said.
