GREENFIELD — Police have apprehended a Hancock County inmate who failed to return to community corrections on Thursday.
Jon Kanieski, 32, of Greenfield, was serving time at the Hancock County Jail on a battery conviction but was transferred to the Hancock County Community Corrections work-release program earlier this week, Sheriff Mike Shepherd said.
Kanieski left community corrections around 8 a.m. Thursday morning with permission to go out and look for a job. Kanieski was scheduled to return by 12:30 p.m. the same day but never came back to the facility.
A confidential informant told a community corrections field officer that Kanieski picked up a gun after leaving the facility and made a comment that he was prepared to use it if police try to stop him.
Shelby County police pulled Kanieski over in Indianapolis around 6 a.m. Saturday. He was arrested without incident.
Local law enforcement had put out a notice to neighboring agencies with the description of Kanieski's vehicle and license plate number.
