GREENFIELD — Kevin Carter was up before the sun Saturday morning.
In fact, by the time the first rays of sunshine were peaking over the horizon, Carter was already at the Hancock County Fairgrounds; a fire already going in his grill.
Carter was the first participant to arrive for the fair’s open barbecue contest. According to the rulebook, Carter couldn’t start cooking until 6 a.m., but it didn’t say anything about when you could start your grill.
