CHARLOTTESVILLE — For once, Eastern Hancock’s single-game scoring record was left untouched Friday night.
But that didn’t mean the Royals took it easy on Cambridge City Lincoln, which came to EH with just a single victory for the season.
EH (11-0) navigated many short fields, mostly on the strength of Logan Splater’s right arm, and eased past the Eagles 62-0 in the second round of Class 1A-Sectional 45.
The fourth-ranked Royals, who scored 60 or more points for the seventh consecutive game, rode Splater’s four touchdown passes — all to different receivers — as well as five scores by Spencer Gilbert.
Next for EH is a trip to eastern Wayne County for a sectional-final match with Northeastern (9-2), a 28-7 winner Friday over Monroe Central.
In a bit of a change-up to giving the ball to Gilbert early, EH coach Pat Echeverria ordered passes on 11 of the Royals’ first 13 plays from scrimmage. Four went for scores.
The first was when Splater dumped it off to Gilbert behind the line, and Gilbert ran it in from 39 yards out with two minutes elapsed in the contest.
