GREENFIELD — Central Indiana is on track for the driest June on record and forecasts for a chance of showers later this week will offer little in the way of relief for parched fields, gardens and yards.

After a month of virtually no precipitation and consistently high temperatures, Hancock County has moved into the early stages of drought. Experts say those conditions are likely to persist for at least the next week, increasing the stress on crops and water supplies.
