New Palestine splits with HHC leader

NEW PALESTINE — New Palestine on Friday was intent on putting the first blemish on Shelbyville’s record this baseball season.

It took some time; in fact, the Dragons needed every one of their at-bats, but they got the job done.

Steven Clark ripped a bases-loaded double to deep right field in the last of the seventh inning, plating the tying and winning runs as NP handed the Golden Bears their initial defeat, 3-2 in the front end of a Hoosier Heritage Conference doubleheader.

The Dragons couldn’t quite duplicate the feat in game 2, falling 10-9 in eight innings after charging from 7-0 down.

“I think we’re an outstanding baseball team, but we’ve got to play all three phases (hitting, pitching, defense),” NP coach Shawn Lyons said.
