FRANKLIN — After starting its season 2-8, New Palestine had found its stride in the second half of its season, going 12-8 entering its Sectional 13 quarterfinal match with Greenwood Tuesday evening in Franklin.
That momentum came to a screeching halt against the Woodmen, who defeated NP for the second year in a row in sectional play.
The Dragons lost a 2-1 set advantage to fall 20-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-19, 15-7. Greenwood (14-13) will play the victor of Franklin Central (18-9) and Center Grove (14-13) Thursday at 6 p.m. in the first semifinal.
“Up until today, we had been playing some good ball,” first-year NP coach Jerry Saffold said. “They just didn’t execute coming down the stretch.”
With the first set level at eight, New Palestine ripped off seven straight points behind the serving of Cianna Speth to seize control. Katie Morris added four kills and Mikayla Little notched two kills, as NP scored five of the last six points to claim the first stanza.
