GREENFIELD —  Downtown Greenfield will get about $14,000 worth of sprucing in the business sector over the next few months as Greenfield Main Street Inc. awarded its facade grant funding for 2013.

Through the program, businesses and residents in the core downtown historic area could receive a matching grant of up to $3,000 for exterior property improvements such as awnings, signage and painting projects, said city planning director Joanie Fitzwater.

This year, a total of $13,672 was distributed to eight downtown businesses in varying amounts ranging from $937 to $3,000 for awnings, wall lamps, paint and other enhancements, and Greenfield Main Street’s board president said the projects were right in line with what downtown supporters are trying to accomplish.
