TRAFALGAR — Eastern Hancock is justifying all that preseason promise.
The Royals — a 1-9 unit just three seasons ago — are cementing themselves as one of Class A’s top teams with a dynamic offense and opportunistic defense.
No. 8 EH moved to 3-0 for the first time in 15 years by defeating Indian Creek 33-25 Friday night in Trafalgar, getting the best of the Braves for the first time in seven tries by rallying from a 19-0 second quarter deficit.
Eastern Hancock also secured sole possession of first place in the Mid-Indiana Football with a 2-0 mark.
It’s hard to believe how far the Royals have come in the 29 months Pat Echeverria has been at the helm, going from 3-7 in 2011 to earning a sectional championship appearance at 6-6 last fall.
“This is the best football team I’ve ever played on,” said senior running back Spencer Gilbert, who rumbled for 176 yards and three touchdowns Friday. “Going from 1-9 my freshman year to now 3-0 my senior year, we can definitely make great things happen.”
