Workers braved cold temperatures Monday as construction continued on the new Hancock County Senior Services headquarters on Fields Boulevard in Greenfield.
Linda Hart, executive director of the agency, said the group anticipates a tentative March completion date on the 4,000-square-foot administrative building and 6,000-square-foot, 14-stall garage building, which will house Senior Services’ fleet of vehicles used for its transportation programs..
For the past 12 years, Senior Services has shared space with the Hancock County Community Foundation on East Main Street; however, increased demand for transportation and other programs made it necessary to expand.
The buildings are on a 1.67-acre site on Fields Boulevard between New Road and Muskegon Drive. Officials say the $1.4 million facility should accommodate the agency’s needs for the next 20 years and includes room for future expansion.
Senior Services received a $700,000 grant from the Lilly Endowment, distributed by United Way of Central Indiana, that was matched by donations from the city of Greenfield, area residents and businesses to complete the funding on the project.
