GREENFIELD — Two deputy coroners are overseeing the county’s death investigations while Crystel Myers focuses on her criminal case.
As of Thursday, there had been no calls for the coroner, who was arrested last Friday on a single charge of theft, to step down.
Myers pleaded not guilty Monday to the Class D felony, which carries a penalty range of six months to three years and up to $10,000 in fines. She is accused of stealing two $50 toy trucks from Wal-Mart.
County Democratic Party chairman Phil Hunt said his concern has been focused on making sure Myers’ responsibilities were being fulfilled.
“The duties of the office are being taken care of,” he said. “That’s the main thing right now.”
Chief Deputy Coroner Rudy Nylund said that he is dividing responsibilities with deputy coroner Steve Slinkard.
“The office is certainly being maintained and taken care of until this situation can be taken care of,” he said.
