CORRECTION — A story in the weekend edition about Hancock County Coroner Tamara Vangundy’s job contained incorrect information. A petition to have Vangundy removed has not been filed, as the story and headline stated. Hancock County Prosecutor Michael Griffin, who has called for Vangundy to step down, intends to speak with Special Prosecutor John McKay of Madison County about the matter before deciding how to proceed.
GREENFIELD — Hancock County voters will have a choice for coroner this fall, regardless of whether Republican Tamara Vangundy steps down amid charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and official misconduct.
Dan Devoy, former deputy coroner and Vangundy’s Republican primary election foe four years ago, announced that he will run as an independent for coroner in the Nov. 8 general election.
Crystel Myers, a Democrat, was slated to the ballot Monday.
Both acknowledge that it will take work to defeat an incumbent in a county that primarily votes Republican, but both say they want public trust restored to the office.
