GREENFIELD — A political flier that reached the mailboxes of 6,400 households in Hancock County this week is putting Republicans at odds once again over political turf within the party.

The central committee of the Hancock County Republican Party is endorsing 16 people for state convention delegates. The move, which leaves 10 hopefuls off the list, comes two months after candidates were formally challenged on the ballot and the GOP chairman publicly criticized the tea party movement.

It’s an unprecedented move for a primary election, because the central committee doesn’t typically endorse candidates in the spring.

Still, the move comes in an unusual year: A record-breaking 26 Republicans have signed up for the 18 at-large seats for the state Republican convention, which will be held in June.
