NEW CASTLE — Greenfield-Central wanted to make every second count when it had the football Friday night against New Castle.
That’s why Cougars’ coach Roger Dodson installed the no-huddle offense. And his mainly young charges for the most part mastered it like seasoned veterans.
G-C spotted the Trojans an early score, but blasted the hosts with five unanswered touchdowns and notched a 32-7 opening-night win at Huffman Field.
Sophomore Jeremiah Fields seized the moment in his maiden varsity voyage, tossing three TD strikes, including a pair to Stephen Dickerson, as the Cougars whipped the Trojans for the sixth straight time in a season lid lifter.
“We wanted to get an advantage,” said G-C coach Roger Dodson of the hurry-up look. “We’ve experimented with it all summer and we hope it works for us and not against us.”
