GREENFIELD — Over the past three months, the members of the Greenfield-Central girls’ soccer team have had plenty opportunities to walk away from the program.
Not only is the team on its third coach in six months, but the Cougars have only 17 players on the roster, not enough to field a junior varsity team.
Then came the news last week that the team’s leading scorer from last season, junior Emily Koers, would miss four to five weeks with a right ankle injury suffered in the team’s 3-0 loss to Franklin Central last week.
Instead of giving up after two losses by a combined score of 6-1 last week to open their season, the Cougars showed resolve Monday night against rival Mt. Vernon and scored a 1-0 victory in their first home game of 2012.
