GREENFIELD — With six weeks until she takes office, Hancock County Coroner-elect Crystel Myers is already working on assembling her team of death investigators.

Myers, 28, of Greenfield, won the election last week in an unusual three-way race. Myers, a Democrat, defeated interim Coroner Dan Devoy and Joe Fortner, both Republicans who ran as independents.

Though it’s been little more than a week since Myers found out officially she had won the coroner’s race, the Martinsville native said she’s already received calls and emails from nearly a dozen people who are interested in getting involved come Jan. 1.

She plans to hold open interviews in December and select three or four deputies.
