GREENFIELD — Christmas is still two months away, but Greenfield police already have their minds on the holiday season and helping less fortunate children enjoy it.
The department’s annual Cops 4 Kids campaign gives underprivileged children whose families might not otherwise do much gift-giving over the holidays a chance to go shopping alongside local law enforcement officers. Fundraising for the annual Christmastime tradition is under way.
It takes about $11,000 to $12,000 to fund the program, which typically serves 35 to 40 Greenfield youngsters. Each child – 36 participated last year – is allotted $300 to spend, $200 of which must go toward clothing items.
