There are a few undeniable if anecdotal rules in high school sports.

Most applicable among these quasi-laws Friday during Eastern Hancock’s Class A State Finals loss: When faced with a rematch against a fairly equally talented team, it’s better to be the team that lost the first go-around.

The Royals beat Tri-Central, 47-35, in the first game of the regular season, way back on Aug. 23.

More than three months ago according to the calendar, the loss might as well have been three days ago for the Trojans, who kept the defeat fresh in their memory. They used that motivation to take a 20-10 victory Friday in the title game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
