Hancock County Cheerleader Spotlight

School: Mt. Vernon

Grade: 11th

Position: Base/back

Favorite stunt: A lib (liberty). No matter how tired I am I feel like I could put one up. Or, a two-man, because they look harder but don’t really feel it.

Favorite team competition, so far: State Fair. I love the time off we get to walk around the fair in between the two performances.

Individual cheer goals: Be able to throw multiple of the same tumbling skill in a row. To get more precise.

Team cheer goals: All stunts hit!

Other extracurricular activities: FFA, Best Buddies, tumbling (JPAC).

Nickname: Syd.

Favorite aspect of cheerleading: How hype we get before we compete and the feeling of hitting a perfect routine. Being so close to all 18 of the girls on our team. I can ask them for any advice.

Most challenging aspect of cheerleading: When you don’t get 110 percent from the whole team. Conditioning. Mental blocks for tumbling.

Most painful cheer injury: I’ve been lucky to get off with just a few ankle rolls and a couple elbows to the face, with some bruising.
