GREENFIELD — A head-on collision landed three men in the hospital late Wednesday, and investigators are still unsure what led to the crash.

Rescuers were called to the scene just north of the intersection of Chapman Drive and State Street on Greenfield’s south side around 11 p.m., the report states. The accident involved two cars, a 2005 Mazda 6 driven by Dillon Woods, 18, of Fort Wayne; and a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Jeffery Franklin, 26, of Greenfield.

Woods had a passenger with him at the time of the crash, Christopher Ryan, 21, of Greenfield.

When emergency responders arrived, the cars, which had sustained heavy front-end damage, were in the middle of the roadway. All three men were unconscious.

Accident reconstruction experts were on the scene for several hours working to determine what happened in the moments leading up to the accident.

Police determined Woods was southbound on State Street, and Franklin was northbound when their cars collided, according to police reports.
