The landslide winner of the most-asked question of the local high school fall sports season:
“Is Eastern Hancock for real?”
It seems that rarely has a day gone by the last few months without an email, text or conversational query being directed my way regarding the validity of the Royals’ football program.
It’s easy to understand the interest: Eastern Hancock has been winning by jaw-dropping proportions. If you’ve glanced at these sports pages lately, you might know that the Royals are the state’s highest-scoring team, have scored at least 60 points in seven straight contests and drop-kicked an undefeated Shenandoah team back to reality four weeks ago.
The 68-19 victory over then 7-0 Shenandoah — a team that had owned Eastern Hancock most of the last decade — validated for many observers the Royals’ state tournament prospects.
In truth, we learned everything we need to know about the 2013 Royals the first three weeks of the season.
