The Hoosier Heritage Conference’s dalliance with New Castle continues.
The Trojans have been the HHC’s primary target since Rushville announced two years ago it was leaving the conference. The current spring sports campaign is the Lions’ last go-around in the HHC before joining the Eastern Indiana Conference in 2013-14.
New Castle is deciding whether to leave the recently expanded North Central Conference and its taxing travel requirements or join the more geographically convenient HHC as early as 2014-15.
Rushville’s exit leaves the HHC with seven squads. The group would prefer eight schools, but will go into next season as a seven-member conference after rejecting a proposal from Roncalli a few months ago. The Rebels would love to join the HHC, but the athletic advantages often associated with a private school is too big a pill to swallow for the HHC’s public institutions of Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon, New Palestine, Pendleton Heights, Shelbyville, Yorktown and Delta.
