No injures reported after beam snaps

GREENFIELD — Part of the roof of the new Senior Services heaquarters, which is currently under construction on Fields Boulevard, collapsed Tuesday afternoon when a beam snapped.

Four workers were on top of the structure when it gave way, but the structure descended slowly, and no one was injured, contractor Junior Villareal said at the site Wednesday.

Villareal said poor structural design was to blame for the accident. He estimated the building's roof would be rebuilt by next week with an altered design.

Workers broke ground last month after years of fundraising for the new heaquarters. Senior Services is currently housed on  in the back of the Hancock County Community Foundation’s headquarters on Main Street.
