Outlook: The Eastern Hancock boys’ tennis team gave the school its first-ever Mid-Hoosier Conference victory with a win over Southwestern Tuesday evening.
The Royals hope to set a few new athletic standards before they’re done. While no one is predicting a sectional championship just yet — EH’s last tennis title was in 1997 — coach Erin Wolski is optimistic about her current group of youngsters.
The Royals’ 2012 lineup features four underclassmen, three juniors and no seniors. In time, they could be county and sectional contenders.
“Although we are a young team and don’t have as much experience … they are hard workers and love the sport,” said Wolski (formerly Welk), in her second season.
The Royals built a solid foundation last season, upsetting Greenfield-Central 3-2 in the sectional semifinals before falling 5-0 to Mt. Vernon in the championship.
