In 2011, Greenfield-Central made the annual boys’ soccer struggle for Hancock County superiority a three-team race with their captivating season.
Relying on a senior-laden back line, the Cougars (14-4-2) surrendered only 14 goals in 20 games en route to the program’s first sectional championship since 2003. The blue-and-gold shared the Hoosier Heritage Conference crown — only its second HHC title (2000) — with New Palestine and advanced to the regional final. G-C also swept New Palestine and Mt. Vernon in three combined tilts.
The Cougars boasted an impressive record in close games a year ago. Fourteen of the team’s 20 games ended regulation decided by one goal or less.
