Coach: Scott Burton (third season)
Key losses: Adam Ruff, Brandon Bowmer, Josh McDonald, Chase VanHalen, Cody Wilburn
Key returnees: Zach Bishop, Tyler Beeson, Logan Addington, Conner Shaw, Jason LaFord, Austin Felts, Scott Prewitt, Christopher Tatom
2013 Team finishes: 3rd at Hancock County, 5th at Hoosier Heritage Conference, 6th at Warren Central Sectional
Outlook: In the final go-around of his decorated prep career, Tyler Beeson has a chance to earn a fourth state medal.
This winter, Beeson finished sixth in the heavyweight division at the wrestling State Finals.
The senior shot putter has been to the outdoor state meet in track the past two seasons, finishing ninth as a sophomore and 17th last spring while battling a back injury.
Forced to wear a back brace last season, Beeson was robbed of some of his power.
“I told him earlier in the season that my main goal is for him to walk out of this season healthy,” G-C coach Scott Burton said at last season’s outdoor track State Finals. “This is one meet. Yeah, it’s not where you want to be, but your long-term health is more important.”
Recently, Beeson finished ninth in the shot put at the Indoor State Finals, and got through the football and wrestling seasons with no reported health issues.
Beeson was runner-up to now-graduated Warren Central’s Kristopher Davis at the 2013 sectional and regional meets, making Beeson the presumptive shot put favorite at those meets come May.
Another gifted G-C thrower, senior Logan Addington, is still gunning for his first state meet. Addington was third at the 2013 Warren Central Sectional, but took eighth at regional, five spots shy of state. In 2012, Addington was third at sectional and ninth at regional.
Another field event star for the Cougars is senior Conner Shaw, who was the sectional runner-up in the pole vault. On the track, sophomore Zach Bishop was fourth in the sectional 3,200.

Vernon and host Frankton. … G-C won Hancock County and Hoosier Heritage Conference titles in 2012.
