Hands on instruction: Matt Dickerson, an instructor at Central Indiana Merit Badge University, helps Scouts learn about aviation so they can earn a merit badge.

GREENFIELD — More than 300 Boy Scouts hoping to earn the program’s highest honor will come to Greenfield this weekend in the fourth annual Central Indiana Merit Badge University.

From bugling to robotics to traffic safety and more, the boys can choose from 78 classes offering 52 different merit badges.

The boys, ages 11 to 17, are coming from across the Midwest with the same goal: earn more badges to achieve the Eagle Scout rank.

“When they see an opportunity like this to get a merit badge, they jump at the chance to come,” said John LaBore, assistant Scoutmaster of Greenfield’s Boy Scout Troop 233.
