GREENFIELD — Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller is traveling the state, urging schools to apply for grant money to hire school resource officers to keep students safe.
Senate Enrolled Act 1, a law proposed by Zoeller, passed earlier this year. It makes available $20 million over two years in matching grant funding. School districts are eligible for a $50,000 per year grant to hire officers and/or update security.
Zoeller said the safety program has a better shot of receiving annual funding down the road if educators take advantage of the money available now. However, not all districts are certain they will use the money as Zoeller had intended.
