GREENFIELD — After getting city approval in July, fundraising efforts for a new covered show arena at the Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds have begun in earnest as supporters begin canvassing revenue sources in an effort to raise $60,000 by the new year.
“We’re starting with a trickle and putting together a plan to meet our short-term goal of $50,000 to $60,000 by January,” said Candace Trout, covered arena committee chairwoman.
Supporters will use the revenue raised to fund detailed construction and site plans in order to finalize the concept and firm up the ultimate price tag on the project, which is currently estimated between $1.5 and $2 million.
Last week, the committee took a $15,000 grant request for 2013 to the Hancock County Tourism Commission to help fund final design plans.
Commission president David Dellacca said the project was received with interest but a decision was delayed to give commissioners ample opportunity to consider the matter further.
