GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Fire Department is inviting the public to get a behind-the-scenes look at public safety in the department’s first free citizens academy, which kicks off next month.
Fire Chief James Roberts said he’s wanted to offer a citizens academy for years and has even had some of the paperwork in place.
“And it just kept falling through the cracks,” he said.
Roberts and several firefighters who have stepped up to help have a 10-week curriculum ready for the first dozen people who apply.
The academy, which will meet once per week for three hours, will cover topics in the fields of both firefighting and EMS.
