2014 Golf Preview: Eastern Hancock

Follow Daily Reporter:

Coach: Chelsie Kelley, 3rd season.
Home Course: Horseshoe Bend, Lewisville.
2013: Hancock County Tourney, 4th place, 208 (9 holes); Sectional, 9th place, 484.
2014 Varsity (w/grade): Rachel Boaz (12), Hailey Carlton (12), Macy Fout (12), Ryley Burkhart (12), Abby Fout (10), Cassey Hancock (12), Tressa Janes (12), Alexis Young (10).
Outlook: Eastern Hancock has a veteran lineup featuring six seniors and two sophomores. And with the club’s top four scorers from the 2013 sectional returning, the Royals should be able to challenge the nine-hole school record of 190, which they set last season. “Being mostly seniors, we’re hoping to get under that this year,” coach Chelsie Kelley said. … EH opened the season Monday with a 191-225 loss at home against Covenant Christian. Seniors Hailey Carlton (54) and Macy Fout (56) led EH. Carlton posted the team’s best score (50) at the Hancock County Tourney last year, while Fout (116 for 18 holes) was tops at the sectional. Seniors Ryley Burkhart and Rachel Boaz are other returning varsity regulars, while Breanna Jones graduated. … Seniors Cassey Hancock and Tressa Janes are joined by sophomores Abby Fout and newcomer Alexis Young is rounding out the varsity contingent. … The Royals’ chances of a record-setting season will come down to their mental game, according to the coach. “Keeping that positive attitude throughout, that’s something we are still working on,” Kelley said. “They hit that one bad shot and get really upset, and they just have to learn how to forget about it and focus on the next shot.”
Teeing Off: The Royals opened their season Monday against Covenant Christian. They’ll visit Wapahani Thursday.
