McCORDSVILLE - A car collided with a train and killed the single occupant at a collision near Carroll Road and Ind. 67 in McCordsville Tuesday night.

McCordsville Assistant Chief Maj. Paul Casey said Tuesday night that the McCordsville Police Department is handling the investigation and had not yet notified family members of the deceased, which was awaiting formal identification.

"It's still early in the investigation," Casey told the media Tuesday night.
The deceased was not in the vehicle when they were found, according to Casey. The train was traveling northeast bound when it struck the vehicle. There are two sets of tracks in McCordsville, heading northeast and southwest.
Witnesses told emergency responders at the scene that the car turned northbound and instead of continuing on the road turned onto the tracks and was sitting on the south track when struck. Witnesses said it was the driver of the vehicle was female and that she attempted to flag down the train to get it to stop before the vehicle was struck.
The collision forced another nearby train to park on the tracks near Woodbury, blocking off intersections as far back as CR 400W toward Fortville. The Lawrence Police Department also assisted McCordsville emergency personnel at the scene.
