GREENFIELD — Investment manager and former Greenfield city official Ron Nichter says he apologized to his former clients and reimbursed them the money that investigators claim he stole.

One prominent ex-client, however, says Nichter has yet to call him and offer any reimbursement.

The conflicting statements added confusion to details surrounding charges that Nichter, 58, of Pendleton, bilked clients out of more than $160,000. In an interview Wednesday, Nichter, a former member of the Greenfield Board of Works, said he had reached out to the former clients.

“I made a mistake, an error in judgment,” Nichter said. “We’ve reimbursed everyone.”

But at least one of them – his longtime friend and colleague on the works board, former Mayor Brad DeReamer – said that’s just not true.

DeReamer and his wife, Sharon, said Wednesday they were among those who lost money in the alleged scheme, in which Nichter is accused of siphoning clients’ money into his personal account.

“He did not pay me back anything,” said DeReamer, who sent the Daily Reporter a news release Wednesday evening saying he and Sharon had been victims. In an interview, the former mayor said he hadn’t spoken with Nichter in over a year.
