Public hearings planned for proposed TIF districts

FORTVILLE — The Fortville Redevelopment Commission will conduct two public hearings this month to discuss Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district proposals.

Residents are invited to learn more about the proposed districts and discuss questions or concerns with town officials.

Town officials are weighing whether to create two new TIF districts to attract new businesses to the area. TIF districts use property taxes collected from businesses in the district to promote economic development and pay for town improvement projects within the district.

Town officials say they hope establishing the districts will fund improvement projects across the downtown area to make the community more pedestrian-friendly.

The first meeting is from 6 to 8 p.m. March 10; the second is planned for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 12. Both meetings will be at town hall, 714 E. Broadway St.
