Mouhamed Konate, MV forward
MoKo (above, at left) has four more scores (14) than Greenfield-Central’s Enrique Ferrara and has nearly equaled his 2011 total of 17. The forward is also tied for second on Mt. Vernon with four assists.
“The majority of teams follow him around with an extra guy. He gets that kind of treatment and everybody’s aware of him,” MV coach Aaron Britt said. “To still get his goals … he’s just really dangerous all the time.”
Enrique Ferrara, G-C forward
With his four-goal explosion against Yorktown Wednesday, the freshman has inserted himself into the Player of the Year race with 10 goals and three assists.
“He’s tenacious. He doesn’t give up. His knowledge of the game as a freshman is unbelievable,” G-C coach Jared Manning said. “With him playing up front, he’s got knack for blind-siding, sneaking around guys and then all of the sudden he’s got the ball.”
